JAKARTA, Indonesia — Under the glint of the Indonesian lights, a Filipino name continues to command the storm.
Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol once again anchored Onic Indonesia’s dynasty by steering the sonic surge against Alter Ego Esports (4–1), in the MPL Indonesia Season 16 Grand Finals at Nusantara International Convention Exhibition on Sunday night.
The defending champion’s mastery reached its peak in Game 4, as Kairi’s flawless Lancelot (7/0/2) tore through Alter Ego’s defenses in just under 14 minutes.
Following his momentum, the Hedgehogs controlled clash tempos to build a 12.1k gold lead and a 12–3 kill score to move within match point, 3–1.
The finishing blow came in Game 5, with Kairi returning to his signature Hayabusa (7/1/5), shadowing through Alter Ego’s backline as Onic sealed the series in 18:46 minutes.
Adding to the chaos, Kiboy’s offbeat Guinevere roam caught Alter Ego completely off guard, twisting the teamfights in Onic’s favor and leaving no room for retaliation.
Alter Ego struck first blood in the series, ambushing the defending champions with the rookie jungler Yazukee hunting down Onic’s backline to claim Game 1.
But the Filipino storm would not stay silent for long.
Kairi orchestrated the Sky Kings’ retaliation with his Hayabusa pick, threading through teamfights and securing a triple kill alongside the Lord to equalize the series.
He doubled down in Game 3 with another flawless display of Hayabusa with a 7/0/6 masterpiece that shredded Alter Ego’s defenses and reestablished the Sonic Empire’s grip on the map.
Kairi was officially crowned Finals MVP, marking yet another milestone in his international career as the Filipino jungler averaged a 5.4 KDA across the five-game series.
The sonics entered Season 16 with the aura of inevitability as their 14–2 regular season record cemented their #1 seed and playoff upper bracket advantage.
Yet it was the August 8 “Skylar Transfer” that set this campaign apart, a move hailed by analysts as “a superteam forged from two dynasties.”
The addition of Schevenko David "Skylar" Tendean to an already star-studded roster with Kairi, Gilang “Sanz,” and Nicky “Kiboy” Pontonuwu that birthed one of the most feared lineups in league history.
Onic Esports took home the top prize of Rp581,000,000 ($34,900) from the league’s Rp4,860,000,000 ($290,000) pool, while Alter Ego Esports settled for the runner-up’s Rp483,000,000 ($29,000).
The now six-time champion’s strong Season 16 run earned them a return to the M7 World Championship after missing the M6 berth in Season 14.
